About the Role

Our client, a rapidly expanding retail group headquartered in Midrand, Gauteng , is seeking a highly competent Senior Payroll Accountant. This position is responsible for overseeing the entire payroll process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness in salary payments, statutory deductions, and benefits administration for a large workforce. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in payroll management, a strong understanding of South African labor laws and tax regulations, and excellent data management skills. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to confidentiality. Key Responsibilities

• Manage and process the monthly payroll for all employees accurately and efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant South African payroll legislation, including BCEA, LRA, UIF, and PAYE.
• Administer employee benefits, including medical aid, pension funds, and other statutory deductions.
• Perform regular payroll reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies.
• Prepare and submit monthly/bi-annual payroll-related reports to SARS and other relevant bodies.
• Maintain accurate employee payroll records and update information as required.
• Liaise with HR regarding new hires, terminations, and changes in employee status.
• Respond to employee queries related to payroll and benefits.
• Implement and improve payroll processes and internal controls.
• Assist with payroll audits and provide necessary documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; relevant payroll certification is a plus.
• A minimum of 6 years of comprehensive experience in payroll management, preferably in a large organization.
• In-depth knowledge of South African payroll laws, tax regulations, and statutory requirements.
• Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., VIP Payroll, Sage) and MS Excel.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles as they relate to payroll.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
• Experience with a hybrid work model is beneficial.
