You will lead a large workforce, develop short-term plans, and collaborate with mine planning, maintenance, and engineering to meet targets and uphold safety standards. The incumbent brings strong leadership and solid experience in underground mining.

Qualifications

• A relevant qualification in Mining Engineering or Mine Management (e.g., Blasting Certificate, Mine Manager's Certificate).
• Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in operational mining roles, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent capacity.
• Proven experience in underground mining operations.
• Strong understanding of mine safety regulations and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all operational activities within a designated mine section, ensuring safety and productivity targets are met.
• Develop and implement short-term operational plans in conjunction with mine planning and technical departments.
• Supervise and mentor a team of mine supervisors, foremen, and operational personnel.
• Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
• Monitor operational performance, analyze key metrics, and implement corrective actions to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Manage resources, including equipment, materials, and labor, effectively.
• Foster a strong safety culture and ensure all personnel are adequately trained and equipped.
• Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and technical services departments to ensure operational continuity.
• Participate in mine management meetings and contribute to strategic operational decision-making.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports.

About the Role

Our client, a major mining house with operations in the heart of Gauteng, is seeking a results-driven Senior Operations Superintendent for their established mining site near Benoni, Gauteng . This crucial leadership role oversees the day-to-day operations of a significant section of the mine, focusing on safety, productivity, cost control, and operational efficiency. The Senior Operations Superintendent will be responsible for managing a large workforce, ensuring adherence to operational plans, and implementing best practices in mining and safety management. This position requires strong leadership abilities, a deep understanding of underground mining operations, and a commitment to fostering a safe and productive work environment.
