Qualifications

• Degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in mining operations, with 5+ years in supervision.

• Knowledge of South African mining regulations and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all aspects of the mining operation (drilling, blasting, loading, hauling).
• Develop and implement short- and medium-term production plans.
• Ensure safety protocols and training, safeguarding personnel.
• Manage operational budgets, costs, and identify efficiency improvements.
• Supervise shift foremen and operational staff, driving accountability and continuous improvement.
• Coordinate with maintenance, geology and processing for integrated site success.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly experienced Mining Operations Superintendent to lead their operational teams at their site near Mossel Bay . This pivotal role involves overseeing day-to-day mining activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and productive extraction of resources while meeting production targets. You will be responsible for managing a diverse workforce, optimizing operational processes, and ensuring strict adherence to safety and environmental standards. This is a key leadership position within the South African mining landscape , requiring strong decision-making capabilities and a proven ability to manage complex mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all aspects of the mining operation, including drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling.
• Develop and implement short-term and medium-term production plans to meet company targets.
• Ensure the health and safety of all personnel through rigorous implementation of safety protocols and training.
• Manage operational budgets, control costs, and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
• Supervise and develop shift foremen and operational staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Liaise with other departments such as maintenance, geology, and processing to ensure integrated operational success for the mining site.

Requirements

• Degree in Mining Engineering or a related field, or extensive relevant experience.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mining operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
• Proven experience in managing open-pit or underground mining operations.
• Strong understanding of mining methods, equipment, and production planning.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of relevant South African mining regulations and best practices is essential.
