The ideal candidate has 10+ years of progressive mining operations management experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role, and a strong background in planning, scheduling and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a relevant discipline.
• Diploma with extensive mining experience may be considered.
• 10+ years progressive mining ops management experience, 5+ in supervisory role.
• Experience leading large teams in open pit or underground mining.
• Strong mine planning, scheduling and execution knowledge.
• Excellent safety regulations knowledge and leadership skills.
• Proficiency with mine ops software and reporting systems.
• Willing to work full-time on-site in Randburg and adhere to shift requirements.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all day-to-day mining operations (drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, ground support).

About the Role

Our client, a leading diversified Mining company, is actively seeking a results-oriented Lead Mining Operations Superintendent to oversee daily mining activities at their significant operation near Randburg, Gauteng. This critical on-site role is responsible for managing all aspects of production, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of resources. The Lead Mining Operations Superintendent will lead a large team of supervisors and operational staff, drive performance improvement initiatives, and ensure adherence to stringent safety and environmental standards. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring extensive operational experience and a deep commitment to excellence in mining.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all day-to-day mining operations, including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and ground support.
• Ensure all mining activities comply with the approved mine plan, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mine supervisors, shift bosses, and operational personnel.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for safety, production, cost, and equipment utilization, implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Foster a strong safety culture, promoting proactive hazard identification and risk mitigation.
• Collaborate with other departments, including maintenance, engineering, geology, and health and safety, to optimize operations.
• Oversee resource allocation, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to achieve production targets.
• Investigate incidents and accidents, implementing preventative measures to avoid recurrence.
• Contribute to the development of short-term and medium-term production planning.
• Manage operational budgets and control costs within approved limits.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a relevant discipline.
• A relevant diploma with extensive experience may be considered.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mine operations management, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
• Proven experience in managing large operational teams in either open pit or underground mining environments.
• Strong understanding of mine planning, scheduling, and execution principles.
• Excellent knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in the mining industry.
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and manage complex operational challenges.
• Proficiency with mine operations software and reporting systems.
• Must be willing to work full-time on-site in the Randburg area and adhere to operational shift requirements.
