About the Role

Our client, a major force in the Mining industry, is seeking a seasoned and results-oriented Senior Mining Operations Manager to direct and oversee all operational activities at their significant site near Pretoria, Gauteng . This leadership role is critical to ensuring the safe, efficient, and profitable extraction of resources. The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic planning, operational execution, budget management, and the development of a high-performing workforce. You will champion a culture of safety excellence and continuous improvement, driving productivity and cost-effectiveness across all mining disciplines, including underground and/or open-pit operations. This is a challenging leadership position with significant responsibility and impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all day-to-day mining operations, ensuring adherence to production targets, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
• Develop and implement strategic operational plans to optimize resource extraction, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.
• Manage the operational budget, ensuring financial objectives are met or exceeded.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of mining professionals, including supervisors, engineers, and frontline staff.
• Implement and enforce rigorous health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
• Drive initiatives for continuous improvement in mining methods, technology adoption, and operational processes.
• Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, contractors, and local communities.
• Ensure effective maintenance and utilization of mining equipment and infrastructure.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and implement development plans for staff.
• Report on operational performance, key metrics, and strategic initiatives to senior management.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related technical discipline.

• A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in mine operations management, with a significant track record in leadership roles within the Mining sector.
• Proven experience managing large-scale underground or open-pit mining operations.
• Strong understanding of mine planning, scheduling, ventilation, dewatering, and ground support principles.
• Demonstrated success in implementing safety management systems and achieving excellent safety records.
• Excellent financial acumen, including experience with budget development and management.
• Strong leadership, team-building, and communication skills, with the ability to influence and motivate diverse teams.
• Proficiency in mining software and ERP systems.
• Knowledge of relevant South African mining legislation and regulations.
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
