Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Planning Superintendent for operations near Tembisa, Gauteng. The role combines strategic and operational planning, leading a team of planners and geologists in a hybrid work setup to optimise long-term mine plans and resource use.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in mine planning with supervisory experience, strong economic and budgeting acumen, and proficiency in Deswik, Vulcan or Surpac. PE registration preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years in mine planning and operations with 3+ years in supervisory roles.
• Experience with open-pit and/or underground methods and planning techniques.
• Proficiency in Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac or similar software.
• Strong understanding of mine economics, budgeting and financial modeling.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management.
• Hybrid work model experience; Professional Engineer registration preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop long-term and short-term mine plans aligned with targets and resources.
• Optimize sequences, scheduling and resource allocation for efficiency.
• Lead and mentor a team of mine engineers and geologists.
• Conduct feasibility studies, economic evaluations and risk assessments.
• Collaborate with operations, exploration and processing teams for integrated planning.
• Ensure safety, environmental and regulatory compliance in planning activities.
• Prepare reports and presentations for senior management on planning performance.
• Implement and manage mine planning software and systems.
