Placements24 is assisting a leading mining company near Randburg, Gauteng, in sourcing a Senior Mine Planning Engineer. The role focuses on developing short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans, optimizing designs and schedules while ensuring safety and profitability.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in open-pit or underground mining, solid experience with resource modeling, and hands-on use of Deswik, Vulcan, and Surpac. Hybrid work arrangement is offered.

Qualifications

• BSc or BEng in Mining Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years in mine planning and engineering with operational focus.
• Proficiency in Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac and other planning software.
• Knowledge of open-pit and/or underground mining methods.
• Experience with resource modeling and reserve estimation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Pr.Eng registration or eligibility with ECSA is desirable.
• Experience in Gauteng province is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and update integrated short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans.
• Optimize mine designs and production schedules for value and safety.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic assessments for projects and operations.
• Utilize advanced mine planning software for 3D modeling, scheduling, and optimization.
• Collaborate with geology, operations and engineering teams to align plans with objectives.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mine planning engineers.
• Prepare clear technical reports and recommendations for management.
• Support on-site teams in implementing mine plans in Randburg area.
