Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is required.
• PR/Eng registration with ECSA is preferred.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible MEP design experience.
• High-rise or large commercial project exposure is essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and coordination of MEP for high-rise projects.
• Develop detailed MEP designs including HVAC, power, lighting, fire protection and water systems.
• Perform load calculations, energy analysis and system sizing.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS, codes and project specs.

About the Role

Our client is a highly respected engineering firm specializing in the design and implementation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems for large-scale commercial and residential developments. We are seeking a Senior MEP Engineer to lead our MEP design efforts for major high-rise building projects in the Mahikeng, North West province. This role requires extensive expertise in designing integrated MEP systems, managing engineering teams, and ensuring compliance with building codes and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, excellent project management skills, and a proven track record of successfully delivering complex MEP solutions for architecturally significant buildings. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and coordination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for high-rise building projects.
• Develop detailed MEP system designs, including HVAC, power distribution, lighting, fire protection, and water systems.
• Perform load calculations, energy analysis, and system sizing for optimal performance and efficiency.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant South African National Standards (SANS), building codes, and project specifications.
• Manage and mentor a team of MEP engineers and technicians, overseeing their design work and professional development.
• Collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of MEP systems.
• Review shop drawings, equipment submittals, and construction progress to ensure adherence to design intent.
• Conduct site inspections and troubleshooting during the construction phase to resolve MEP-related issues.
• Prepare technical specifications, tender documentation, and project reports.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in MEP engineering design, with at least 5 years focused on high-rise buildings or large commercial structures.
• Proven experience in designing integrated HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Proficiency in MEP design software (e.g., AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, Navisworks) and relevant calculation tools.
• Strong understanding of energy efficiency, sustainable design principles, and green building certifications (e.g., Green Star SA).
• Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage project timelines, budgets, and technical challenges effectively.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng.) registration with ECSA is essential.
• Experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) coordination is highly desirable.
