Job summary

thyssenkrupp Uhde South Africa is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join the Electrical Engineering Department in Cape Town. The role involves leading electrical design efforts on energy and chemical projects, performing PFD/P&ID reviews, HAZOP/SIL, 3D modelling, and ensuring constructability.

The successful candidate should hold a BSc/BEng in Electrical Engineering with about four years of contracting experience, preferably with brownfield projects, and be familiar with NEC.

Qualifications

• BSc or BEng in Electrical Engineering.
• About 4 years of engineering experience in contracting for energy/chemical sectors.
• ECSA registration preferred; NEC knowledge advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Interact with clients to understand expectations and deliver to satisfied requirements.
• Lead electrical design on multiple projects and manage scoping.
• Conduct PFD and P&ID reviews, HAZOP and SIL assessments.
• Perform hazardous area classifications; oversee manpower planning and schedules.
• Carry out field engineering including lighting, earthing, and cable routing.
• Design medium/low voltage substations and related protection schemes.

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer with relevant design house experience to join the Electrical Engineering Department.

The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the following job description but not limited to:

• Interaction with the client to understand and deliver to Client’s expectations.
• Performing lead engineer role on various small projects.
• Participate in PFD and P&ID Reviews, HAZOP & SIL reviews, 3D model and constructability reviews
• Lead or participate in Hazardous Area Classification Reviews
• Perform manpower planning and project schedule management for the projects where a lead engineer role is held.
• Perform scoping exercises on site
• General electrical design activities/ deliverables
• Network studies and protection grading studies.
• Medium and low voltage substation design.
• Field engineering experience, including lighting and small power design, earthing and lightning protection design, cable racking and routing design, cathodic protection design and cable sizing and selection.

The successful candidate must be in possession of a BSc./ B.Eng. Electrical Engineering degree with 4 years engineering experience in a contracting environment working on projects in the energy and chemical/ refining / petrochemical industries.

Professional Registration with ECSA is preferable.

A working knowledge of NEC would be an added advantage.

Experience in brownfield project execution.
