Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Litigation Associate for a prestigious Cape Town law firm. You will manage a high-stakes commercial dispute caseload, oversee strategy, and represent clients in court, mediations, and arbitrations.

The role requires an admitted attorney with 6+ years in litigation, strong civil-procedure knowledge, and excellent written and verbal communication. A leadership mindset and mentoring ability are valued.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney with at least 6 years of post-qualification experience in litigation.
• Experience in managing significant commercial disputes.
• Proven track record in superior courts and/or arbitration tribunals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong understanding of civil procedure, evidence, and relevant substantive law.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Team player with leadership potential.
• Fluent in English and strong report-writing abilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage and conduct complex commercial litigation from inception to resolution.
• Develop litigation strategies, prepare pleadings, affidavits, and court documents.
• Conduct discovery, including document review, examinations for discovery, and interrogatories.
• Represent clients in court appearances, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferences.
• Conduct legal research and provide authoritative opinions on litigation matters.
• Mentor and supervise junior associates and legal support staff.
• Liaise with clients, witnesses, opposing counsel, and relevant authorities.
• Manage case budgets and ensure timely delivery of services.
• Identify opportunities for business development within the litigation practice area.
• Stay current with precedents and procedural rules relevant to litigation in Cape Town and beyond.
