Placements24 is seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer in Pretoria, Gauteng, to lead facility layout design and material flow optimization for an automotive manufacturing site. The role focuses on improving productivity, safety, and efficiency through lean principles, ergonomics, and simulation techniques.

Ideal candidates have 6+ years in industrial engineering, strong CAD and simulation skills, and a track record of managing layout projects in manufacturing environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering (or Mechanical Engineering-related field).
• 6+ years in industrial engineering focusing on facility layout and material flow.
• Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles (Value Stream Mapping, 5S).
• Proficiency in CAD for layouts/drawings and experience with simulation tools FlexSim/AnyLogic.

Responsibilities

• Design and redesign plant layouts, production lines, and workstations to maximize space and minimize handling distances.
• Map material flow and product movement to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
• Develop strategies for inventory storage and material handling optimization.
• Create detailed layout drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
• Model and evaluate layout scenarios with simulation software before implementation.
• Conduct ergonomic assessments to improve worker safety and reduce injuries.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, maintenance, and safety teams for integrated solutions.
• Develop project plans, budgets, and timelines for layout and flow improvements.
• Oversee implementation of layout changes with minimal production disruption.
• Ensure designs comply with safety, environmental standards, and company policies in Gauteng.
