Placements24 is seeking a Senior HVAC Technician in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal to install, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC systems. You will diagnose complex faults, inspect equipment, and ensure safety standards are met while supporting project timelines and client satisfaction.

The role requires a relevant HVAC trade qualification and a minimum of five years’ experience in industrial settings. A company vehicle is provided for regional travel and ongoing professional development

Qualifications

• Relevant trade qualification in HVAC.
• 5+ years of experience in commercial/industrial HVAC.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigerants, control systems and electrical components.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics and installation manuals.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within Pietermaritzburg.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair a wide range of commercial HVAC systems.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair a wide range of commercial HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, air handling units, and refrigeration systems.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance to identify and address potential issues before they impact system performance.
• Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and electrical faults in HVAC equipment, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to ensure accurate installations and repairs.
• Collaborate with project managers and other technicians to ensure timely and efficient project completion.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians.
• Ensure all work complies with relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and client specifications.
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and time spent.
• Respond to emergency service calls as required, demonstrating a commitment to minimizing downtime for clients.
• Engage with clients to explain technical issues and proposed solutions clearly and professionally.

Requirements

• A relevant trade qualification (e.g., NTC 3, S4 or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in HVAC.
• A minimum of 5 years of proven experience as an HVAC Technician, specifically in commercial or industrial environments.
• In-depth knowledge of various HVAC systems, refrigerants, control systems, and electrical components.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding technical drawings, schematics, and installation manuals.
• Experience with diagnostic equipment and software for HVAC systems.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and interact with clients.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the Pietermaritzburg region.
• Knowledge of safety protocols and best practices in the HVAC industry.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Familiarity with building management systems (BMS) is advantageous.
