Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for a fully remote role within South Africa. You will lead complex investigations, interpret data, and design foundations for energy infrastructure across renewables and power projects.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s in Geotechnical Engineering with 7+ years of infrastructure experience, and is proficient in PLAXIS, GEO5, and Rocscience. Pr. Eng. status is a plus, with remote work across SA offered.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering.
• Experience in the energy sector or renewables is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software: PLAXIS, GEO5, Rocscience.
• Professional registration (Pr. Eng.) with ECSA is advantageous.
• Legally eligible to work remotely within South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and oversee geotechnical investigations including site characterization and ground condition assessments.
• Analyze field and laboratory data to determine soil and rock properties.
• Design and specify foundations for energy infrastructure projects (wind turbines, solar arrays, substations, power plants).
• Develop geotechnical risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Prepare geotechnical reports, design calculations, and specifications.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (structural, civil, environmental).
• Provide mentorship to junior geotechnical engineers.
• Review contractor submittals and monitor construction to ensure design compliance.
• Stay updated with SA building codes and geotechnical advances.
• Contribute to project planning, tendering and proposals.
