Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for mining operations in Kimberley, Northern Cape. You will lead geotechnical investigations, analyze slope stability, and design ground support to ensure safe open pits and underground structures.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in Geotechnical or Mining Engineering with 7+ years in mining geotech, strong Rocscience/FLAC proficiency, and proven reporting and advisory skills for mine planning teams.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geotechnical or mining engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of geotechnical experience in mining.
• Proficiency in Rocscience Suite and FLAC.
• Strong rock/soil mechanics & hydrogeology knowledge.
• Experience in mine design, slope assessment, ground support design.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and oversee geotechnical investigations including site characterization and lab testing.
• Perform stability analyses for open-pit slopes, underground excavations, tailings facilities.
• Design and implement ground support systems (rock bolts, shotcrete, reinforcement).
• Develop and manage monitoring programs for ground conditions and hazards.
• Provide expert geotechnical advice to mine planning and operations.
• Ensure compliance with mining safety regulations and industry best practices.
