Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to contribute to the safety and stability of mining operations in Klerksdorp. You will assess ground conditions, design support systems, and mitigate risks associated with slope stability and underground excavations.

Collaboration with mine planning and production teams is essential to ensure robust ground support implementation. The role requires a strong background in rock and soil mechanics, field instrumentation, and geotechnical

Qualifications

Master's degree or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with significant exposure to mining projects.
Proficiency in geotechnical modeling software (e.g., FLAC, Rocscience suite).
Strong knowledge of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and engineering geology.
Experience with field instrumentation and monitoring techniques.
Excellent report writing and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

Conduct site investigations and laboratory testing to characterize rock and soil properties.
Perform stability analyses for open pits, underground excavations, and tailings dams.
Design and recommend appropriate ground support systems for various mining conditions.
Monitor ground conditions and assess the effectiveness of support measures.
Provide technical guidance on geotechnical aspects of mine design and construction.
Investigate and report on geotechnical incidents, developing preventative strategies.
