Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with a focus on open-pit mining to join a Kimberley team. You will ensure stability and safety of pit walls, conduct detailed geotechnical assessments, develop slope designs, and implement monitoring programs to mitigate geological risks.

The role requires a master’s degree and 8+ years in geotechnical engineering, with proficiency in SLOPE/W and FLAC, and willingness to work on-site in the Northern Cape region, including travel to remote

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with geotechnical focus.
• 8+ years of geotechnical experience in open-pit mining.
• Proven ability to perform slope stability analyses using specialized software (SLOPE/W, FLAC).
• Solid understanding of rock and soil mechanics, and geological characterization techniques.
• Experience with geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring systems.

This crucial role involves ensuring the stability and safety of open-pit mines through expert analysis and design. You will conduct detailed geotechnical assessments, develop slope designs, and implement monitoring programs to mitigate risks associated with geological conditions. Your expertise will be vital in supporting the planning and safe execution of mining operations, contributing significantly to the company's commitment to operational safety and efficiency in the Northern Cape mining region .

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive geotechnical investigations for open-pit mine planning and design.
• Perform slope stability analyses and design recommendations for optimal pit wall geometry.
• Develop and implement geotechnical monitoring programs, including instrumentation installation and data interpretation.
• Assess and manage risks associated with geological hazards such as landslides and rockfalls.
• Provide expert geotechnical advice to mine planning, operations, and closure teams.
• Review and approve geotechnical designs and reports, ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering with a geotechnical focus, or Mining Engineering.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a strong emphasis on open-pit mining .
• Proven ability to perform complex slope stability analyses using specialized software (e.g., SLOPE/W, FLAC).
• Solid understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and geological characterization techniques.
• Experience with geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring systems.
• Willingness to work on-site in and around Kimberley and potentially travel to remote project locations.
