Job summary
Placements24 seeks a highly experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to advance mining projects in Stellenbosch. You will lead advanced analyses of ground conditions, slope stability, tailings facilities, and mine infrastructure support to ensure safety and viability.
The role requires a MSc or MSc/MEng in Geotechnical Engineering, Pr Eng with ECSA, and at least 10 years in mining geotechnics. Proficiency with FLAC or PLAXIS is essential, plus leadership and mentoring capabilities.
Qualifications
- MSc or MSc/MEng in Geotechnical Engineering or related discipline.
- Pr Eng registration with ECSA.
- At least 10 years of mining geotechnical experience.
- Expertise in ground control and TSF design.
- Proficient with geotechnical modeling software.
Responsibilities
- Lead advanced geotechnical investigations for open-pit and underground mining.
- Perform slope stability analyses for mines and tailings facilities.
- Provide foundation design guidance for mine infrastructure.
- Develop geotechnical designs for ground support, dewatering, and erosion control.
- Oversee fieldwork, lab testing, and data interpretation.
- Prepare geotechnical reports, risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
