Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geoscientist for our Bloemfontein team to interpret subsurface data and build robust geological models. The role focuses on integrating seismic, core, and well data to guide exploration plans and asset evaluation.

The successful candidate will leverage advanced software to deliver actionable insights, support multidisciplinary projects, and mentor junior colleagues while contributing to strategic decisions in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geophysics, Geology, or related geoscience discipline.
• 8+ years of exploration geoscience experience, preferably Oil & Gas.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed seismic interpretation to identify structures and traps.

About the Role

Our client, a leading exploration and production company in the Oil & Gas industry, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Geoscientist to join their team in Bloemfontein, Free State . This position is vital for interpreting subsurface data, developing geological and geophysical models, and identifying potential hydrocarbon resources. The successful candidate will leverage advanced technologies and methodologies to analyze seismic, well log, and other geological data, contributing significantly to exploration strategies and asset evaluation. We are looking for an analytical and innovative professional with a proven ability to integrate diverse datasets and deliver actionable insights. Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed seismic data interpretation to identify geological structures and potential traps.
• Integrate well log, core, and seismic data to build robust subsurface geological models.
• Conduct basin analysis and play fairway mapping to identify exploration opportunities.
• Contribute to the assessment of exploration risks and potential hydrocarbon volumes.
• Utilize advanced geophysical software and techniques for data processing and analysis.
• Collaborate with reservoir engineers and drilling engineers to provide geological support for well planning and operations.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and summaries for management and stakeholders.
• Stay current with emerging geoscience technologies and methodologies in the Oil & Gas sector.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to strategic decision-making.
• Mentor junior geoscientists and share technical knowledge within the team.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geophysics, Geology, or a related geoscience discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience in exploration geoscience, preferably within the Oil & Gas sector.
• Proficiency in seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite, IHS Markit).
• Strong understanding of structural geology, stratigraphy, and sedimentology.
• Experience with geological and geophysical data integration and uncertainty assessment.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and presentation abilities.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Experience with prospect generation and resource estimation is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of South African geological settings is an advantage.
