Placements24 seeks a Lead Geoscientist in Midrand, Gauteng, to spearhead seismic interpretation, subsurface modeling and prospect identification within the energy sector.

You will lead a team of geoscientists and technicians, collaborating with reservoir engineers and drilling teams to translate complex data into actionable exploration strategies that drive growth and success for the organization.

Competenze

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geoscience or related field.
• Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in exploration geoscience within oil & gas.
• Extensive seismic interpretation, sequence stratigraphy, and structural geology experience.
• Proficiency with Petrel, Kingdom Suite, and IHS Markit.
• Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent entity within the energy sector, is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Geoscientist to spearhead their exploration initiatives. This critical role is based in the strategic location of Midrand, Gauteng , a key economic hub in South Africa . The Lead Geoscientist will be responsible for guiding seismic interpretation, subsurface modeling, and prospect identification, playing a vital part in discovering new energy reserves. The successful candidate will possess a profound knowledge of geological principles, advanced geophysical techniques, and a proven ability to translate complex data into actionable exploration strategies. This position demands leadership acumen, strong analytical capabilities, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of geological understanding in the energy domain. Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Extensive experience in seismic interpretation, sequence stratigraphy, and structural geology.
• Proficiency with industry-standard software for seismic interpretation and modeling (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite, IHS Markit).
• Demonstrated success in identifying and maturing exploration prospects.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience working with international datasets and diverse geological settings is advantageous.
• Knowledge of the geological framework of Southern Africa is a plus.
