Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geoscientist to join our Johannesburg exploration team. You will lead geological analysis and interpretation of seismic and well data to identify new hydrocarbon resources and shape exploration strategy.

You will mentor juniors, collaborate with engineers and geophysicists, present findings to management, and stay at the forefront of geological software and techniques.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geoscience, Geology, Geophysics, or related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of oil and gas exploration experience with seismic interpretation.
• Proficiency in Petrel or Kingdom Suite.
• Experience with structural geology and sequence stratigraphy is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead interpretation of 2D/3D seismic data, well logs, and core data to build subsurface models.
• Identify and evaluate exploration prospects, quantify geological risk and uncertainty.
• Collaborate with reservoir engineers and geophysicists to integrate insights into field development and production planning.
• Mentor junior geoscientists and promote continuous learning.
• Prepare and present geological reports and recommendations to management and stakeholders.

• Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Petrel, Kingdom Suite, or similar interpretation platforms.
• Proven track record of identifying commercially viable exploration targets.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience with structural geology and sequence stratigraphy is highly advantageous.
