Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Energy Trader for a hybrid role based in Benoni, Gauteng. The successful candidate will trade electricity, natural gas and carbon-related instruments across SA and international markets, leveraging market insights and analytics to optimize profitability.

The role requires 5–7 years in energy trading, deep knowledge of energy markets, risk management skills and the ability to perform under pressure. Flexibility for some remote trading activities is offered.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering or related field.
Minimum 5–7 years of energy trading experience.
Proven profitable trading track record in energy markets.
Deep knowledge of energy commodity markets, drivers, regulations and mechanisms.
Strong analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills.
Ability to perform under pressure and make sound decisions.
Proficiency with trading platforms and analytics tools.

Responsibilities

Execute trading strategies for energy products (electricity, gas, futures, options) in SA and international markets.
Monitor trends, news and indicators to identify opportunities and risks.
Develop and implement risk management strategies to protect capital.
Analyze market data and communicate strategic trading insights to the team.
Maintain relationships with brokers, counterparties and market participants.
Ensure compliance with trading regulations and internal policies.
Contribute to development and refinement of trading models and tools.
Manage daily positions and P&L.
