Placements24 recruiting client in Vereeniging for a Senior Energy Trader with 7+ years in energy markets. Role blends in-office strategy sessions with remote trading capabilities in a hybrid setup.

You will develop and execute strategies across oil, gas, power, and coal, managing risk and capitalising on volatile market conditions. The ideal candidate has a strong quantitative background, proven profitability, and excellent communication to collaborate with risk, research, and operations teams

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related quantitative field.
• Master's degree or MBA is a plus.
• 7+ years of experience in energy commodity trading with profitability track record.
• Deep knowledge of energy markets and their derivatives.
• Proven ability to develop and implement trading strategies.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and risk management skills.
• Proficiency in trading platforms and market data tools.
• Excellent decision-making and ability to work under pressure.
• Strong communication in a hybrid team environment.
• Must be able to work from Vereeniging office for a significant portion of the week.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and refine trading strategies for energy commodities.
• Execute trades across energy markets (WTI, Brent, NatGas, Electricity, Coal) via multiple trading platforms.
• Monitor market movements, news, and indicators to identify trading opportunities and manage risk.
• Analyze market data, trends, and volatilities to forecast price movements and inform trading decisions.
• Manage the firm's risk exposure within defined limits, ensuring compliance with trading policies.
• Collaborate with risk management, quantitative research, and operations teams to optimize trading performance.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, counterparties, and market participants.
• Contribute to market intelligence gathering and strategy development discussions.
• Mentor junior traders and provide guidance on market analysis and trading techniques.
• Ensure accurate trade recording, settlement, and reconciliation processes.
