Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, implement, and test firmware for industrial IoT devices in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. You will work with hardware engineers to deliver embedded solutions, optimize RTOS performance, and lead driver development for sensors and MCUs.

The role requires 5+ years of embedded experience, strong C/C++, and hands-on skills with RTOS, ARM Cortex-M, and IoT protocols.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, CS or related field.
• 5+ years of embedded software development experience.
• Proficiency in C and C++ for embedded systems.
• Experience with RTOS such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or VxWorks.
• Strong knowledge of ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
• Familiarity with SPI, I2C, UART, CAN.
• Experience with IoT protocols (MQTT, CoAP, HTTP).
• Knowledge of Git and version control tools.
• Experience with hardware-software co-design and debugging.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain firmware and embedded software for IoT devices using C/C++.
• Develop and integrate drivers for sensors, modules and microcontrollers.
• Implement and optimize RTOS for embedded applications.
• Design network protocols (MQTT, CoAP, TCP/IP) for IoT devices.
• Perform unit, integration, and system testing for reliability.
• Collaborate with hardware teams to define hardware requirements.
• Optimize code for memory, speed, and power consumption.
• Participate in code reviews and improve development processes.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex embedded systems.
• Contribute to scalable and robust IoT architectures.
