Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Embedded Systems Engineer for a fully remote role that collaborates with teams across locations, including Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. You will design, implement, and test embedded software and hardware for next‑gen control systems in an agile environment.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years in embedded development, strong C/C++, RTOS (FreeRTOS/Zephyr), and hands-on hardware integration skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
• 6+ years of embedded systems experience.
• Strong C/C++ for embedded apps.
• RTOS experience (FreeRTOS, Zephyr or similar).
• Microcontroller architectures: ARM Cortex-M, PIC, AVR.
• I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet interfaces.
• Debug tools (JTAG/SWD) and oscilloscopes.
• Git or similar version control.
• Hardware design knowledge is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving and remote collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement embedded firmware for MCUs/MPUs using C/C++.
• Develop RTOS functionality for embedded applications.
• Design and integrate hardware components and interfaces.
• Create unit, integration, and system tests for firmware and hardware.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, and product teams throughout the lifecycle.
• Debug complex hardware/software issues in embedded systems.
• Optimize for performance, power, and memory usage.
• Document designs, test plans, and user manuals.
• Stay updated with latest embedded tech and tools.
• Improve development processes and tooling.
