Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer to join their Durban, KwaZulu-Natal team. You will design, develop, and test embedded firmware for microcontrollers, work on RTOS-based drivers, and collaborate with hardware engineers on system architecture.

Candidates should have a Bachelor's in Computer or Electrical Engineering with at least 6 years in embedded development, strong C/C++, experience with FreeRTOS or Zephyr and embedded Linux, plus debugging tools and interfaces like

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 6+ years of embedded systems development experience.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems.
• Experience with RTOS (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr) and embedded Linux.
• Familiarity with SPI, I2C, UART, CAN and related interfaces.
• Experience with debugging tools, emulators, and logic analyzers.
• Understanding of hardware/software co-design principles.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent teamwork and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement embedded firmware for microcontrollers and processors, optimizing for performance, power consumption, and reliability.
• Develop and maintain RTOS drivers and software for embedded platforms.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to define system architecture and component selection.
• Create comprehensive test plans for embedded software and systems, including unit and integration testing.
• Debug and troubleshoot complex embedded systems issues across hardware/software interfaces.
• Contribute to the full product development lifecycle from concept to post-launch support.
• Document designs, code, and test results meticulously.
• Stay current with emerging embedded technologies and methodologies.
