The ideal candidate holds Pr. Eng.

or Pr. Tech. Eng. registration with ECSA, a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, and at least 7 years of progressive electrical design experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech. Eng. registration with ECSA is essential.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in electrical design consulting.
• Experience with commercial, industrial, and municipal projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and electrical calculation tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design from concept to completion.
• Develop cost-effective electrical system designs (power distribution, lighting, earthing, protection).
• Prepare design calculations, specifications, and drawings.
• Provide expert technical advice to clients and stakeholders.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS and codes.
• Review contractor submittals and support construction phase.

About the Role

Our client, a prestigious engineering consultancy firm with a national presence, is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Consultant to lead projects from their Upington, Northern Cape office. This hybrid role combines office-based design work with occasional site visits and client meetings. The successful candidate will be responsible for the conceptualization, design, and technical oversight of electrical systems for a diverse portfolio of projects, including commercial, industrial, and municipal infrastructure. You will act as a key technical advisor, collaborating with clients, architects, and other engineering disciplines to deliver innovative and compliant solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design process for a wide range of projects from concept to completion.
• Develop innovative and cost-effective electrical system designs, including power distribution, lighting, earthing, and protection.
• Prepare detailed design calculations, specifications, and drawings using industry-standard software.
• Provide expert technical advice and consultation to clients and project stakeholders.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant South African National Standards (SANS), building codes, and legislation.
• Review contractor submittals, respond to site queries, and provide construction phase support.
• Mentor and guide junior electrical engineers and technicians.
• Manage project timelines and deliverables for electrical scope of work.
• Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal preparation and client presentations.
• Stay abreast of emerging electrical technologies and industry trends.

Requirements

• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr. Tech. Eng.) registration with ECSA is essential.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in electrical design consulting.
• Extensive experience with various project types (commercial, industrial, municipal).
• In-depth knowledge of South African electrical standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and electrical calculation tools.
• Strong leadership, project management, and client liaison skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment and travel as needed for site visits and client meetings.
• Strong report writing and presentation skills.
