Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Systems.
• At least 8 years of experience in electrical design engineering focusing on power systems in the energy sector.
• Experience conducting power system studies using industry-standard software (ETAP/PSS/E).
• Strong knowledge of electrical equipment, protection systems, and grid codes.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for power systems projects including substations, transmission lines, and generation facilities.
• Perform power system studies (load flow, short circuit, stability, protection coordination) using ETAP or PSS/E.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Specify electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, generators, and motors.

Our client, a leading organization in the Energy sector, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Design Engineer specializing in Power Systems to join their team in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal . This role is essential for the design and implementation of complex electrical systems for large-scale energy projects, including power generation, transmission, and distribution. You will be responsible for leading design efforts, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and mentoring junior engineers. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of power system analysis, electrical equipment design, and project execution within the energy infrastructure domain. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design for power systems projects, including substations, transmission lines, and generation facilities.
• Perform power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, stability, and protection coordination analysis using software like ETAP or PSS/E.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Specify electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, generators, and motors.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant national and international standards (e.g., SANS, IEC, IEEE).
• Conduct technical reviews of designs prepared by other engineers and technicians.
• Collaborate with project managers, civil/structural engineers, and procurement teams.
• Provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases of projects.
• Mentor and guide junior electrical engineers and designers.
• Stay updated on the latest technologies and best practices in electrical power systems engineering.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical design engineering, with a significant focus on power systems in the energy sector.
• Proven experience in conducting power system studies using industry-standard software.
• Strong knowledge of electrical equipment, protection systems, and grid codes.
• Familiarity with relevant South African and international electrical standards.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and design skills.
• Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork abilities.
• Professional registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Experience with renewable energy integration is a plus.
