Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer in Klerksdorp, North West, to design electrical systems for power generation, transmission, and distribution. You will develop schematics, single-line diagrams, protection schemes, and specifications.

Ideal candidate has 7+ years' experience, PrEng registration preferred, and proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP or PSS/E; strong teamwork with project managers and clients is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in electrical design with a focus on power systems.
• Proven experience in substations, power plants, or distribution networks.
• PrEng registration with ECSA or eligibility is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for power generation facilities, substations, and transmission/distribution networks.
• Develop detailed electrical drawings, including single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
• Perform power system studies, such as load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analysis.
• Specify electrical equipment, including switchgear, transformers, motors, generators, and protective relays.
• Ensure designs comply with national and international codes and client specifications.
• Prepare technical specifications, BOQs, and design reports.
• Review and approve design documents and provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integrated project execution.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in electrical design, with a focus on power systems.
• Proven experience in designing electrical systems for substations, power plants, or distribution networks.
• Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PSS/E, or similar.
• Strong knowledge of power system analysis techniques and software.
• Understanding of electrical codes and standards applicable to the energy sector.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
