Qualifications

Responsibilities

This critical role involves the design, development, and management of electrical distribution networks, ensuring reliable and efficient power supply to various sectors. You will be responsible for overseeing complex projects, from conceptualization to commissioning, ensuring adherence to the highest safety and technical standards. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of power system engineering, distribution network design, and modern grid technologies. Key Responsibilities

• Design and oversee the implementation of electrical distribution systems, including substations, overhead lines, and underground cables.
• Conduct power system studies, including load flow, fault analysis, and stability studies for distribution networks.
• Develop technical specifications for electrical equipment, such as transformers, switchgear, and protection relays.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for distribution network upgrades and new constructions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, safety regulations (e.g., OHS Act), and utility specifications.
• Investigate and resolve electrical system faults and operational issues.
• Collaborate with planning, operations, and maintenance teams to optimize network performance and reliability.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.
• Review and approve engineering designs and calculations.
• Stay abreast of technological advancements in power distribution and smart grid technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• A Master's degree is an advantage.
• Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in electrical power distribution engineering.
• Proven experience in designing and managing electrical distribution projects.
• In-depth knowledge of power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, DigSilent PowerFactory).
• Familiarity with South African electrical standards and regulations.
• Strong understanding of protection schemes, fault analysis, and network planning.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong project management and leadership capabilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
