Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Engineer - Power Distribution to join their engineering team in Upington, Northern Cape. You will design, implement and maintain distribution networks, substations, and protection schemes to ensure safe, reliable power supply across the region.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, at least 3 years' experience, and proficiency with ETAP, PSS/E or CYME. Knowledge of SA standards and ECSA registration is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Registered or eligible for registration with ECSA is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer power distribution projects, including substations, overhead lines, and underground cables.
• Perform load flow analysis, short circuit calculations, and protection coordination studies for the distribution network.
• Develop specifications for electrical equipment and materials for procurement.
• Oversee the installation, commissioning, and testing of new distribution infrastructure.
• Analyze network performance data to identify areas for improvement in reliability, efficiency, and capacity.
• Respond to and resolve power system disturbances and outages.
• Ensure all designs and operations comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
• Provide technical support to field operations and maintenance teams.
• Stay updated on new technologies and best practices in power distribution engineering.
• Assist in the development of long‑term network expansion and asset management plans.

• Registered or eligible for registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) is an advantage.
