Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Electrical Design Engineer in Stellenbosch to lead the electrical design for utility-scale solar PV and other renewable energy projects from concept through construction support.

You will perform studies, develop drawings and BOMs, and ensure compliance with standards while collaborating with project teams and clients to deliver efficient, safe installations in the renewable sector.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of Electrical design experience with renewables, especially solar PV.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, PVsyst and DIgSILENT for power system studies.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Electrical Design Engineer with extensive experience in the Renewable Energy sector to join their growing team in Stellenbosch. You will lead the electrical design aspects of solar photovoltaic (PV) and other renewable energy projects, from conceptualization through to detailed design and construction support. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring the efficiency, safety, and compliance of our renewable energy installations. This role demands a strong technical background, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, clients, and regulatory bodies to drive successful project outcomes and contribute to a sustainable energy future.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design for utility-scale and commercial solar PV projects, including system architecture, component selection, and single-line diagrams.
• Perform electrical studies such as load flow, short-circuit analysis, and protection coordination.
• Develop detailed electrical drawings, specifications, and bill of materials.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and client requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and support to construction teams during project execution and commissioning.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical design, with a significant focus on renewable energy projects, particularly solar PV.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, PVSyst, DIgSILENT) and power system analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of low, medium, and high voltage systems and equipment.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills for projects in the Stellenbosch region.
