Job summary

Placements24 in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer focused on power systems. You will design electrical schematics, perform system studies, and specify equipment for HV/MV distributions while ensuring compliance with codes. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams in a hybrid work setup.

The ideal candidate has 5–7 years in electrical design, proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical/EPLAN and ETAP/PSS/E, and a PR.Eng. or eligibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5–7 years of experience in electrical design with emphasis on power systems.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN and power-system tools ETAP/PSS/E.
• Solid knowledge of HV/MV systems and relevant electrical codes.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; capable of teamwork.
• PR.Eng. registration or eligibility is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams and layouts for power distribution.
• Perform power-system studies including load flow, short circuit and protection coordination.
• Specify equipment such as transformers, switchgear, breakers and motors per standards.
• Develop control system logic and programming for industrial applications.
• Conduct site surveys and gather project requirements and constraints.
• Prepare specifications, BOQs and other project documentation.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers, PMs and construction personnel.
• Provide technical guidance and mentor junior staff.
• Ensure designs comply with national and international codes and safety standards.
• Troubleshoot design issues during construction and commissioning.
