Job summary

Placements24 seeks a qualified Data Protection Officer to oversee our data privacy strategy and ensure POPIA and GDPR compliance in a fully remote capacity. You will develop policies, perform DPIAs, manage data breaches, and serve as the primary contact for data protection authorities.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a qualified and experienced Data Protection Officer (DPO) to oversee their data privacy strategy and implementation, operating in a fully remote capacity. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain organizational policies and procedures for data protection and privacy.
• Monitor compliance with applicable data protection laws and regulations (e.g., POPIA, GDPR).
• Advise on and assess the impact of data processing activities through Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
• Act as the primary point of contact for supervisory authorities and individuals on all data protection matters.
• Provide training and awareness programs on data protection principles to employees.
• Manage and maintain records of data processing activities and data breaches.

Requirements

• Legal or compliance background with a strong understanding of data protection laws and regulations, particularly POPIA and GDPR.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in data privacy, compliance, or information security roles, with specific DPO experience being a significant advantage.
• Proven ability to develop and implement data protection policies and procedures.
• Experience conducting DPIAs and managing data breach incidents.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and advisory skills.
• Relevant certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or CIPT are highly desirable.
