Job summary

Placements24 in Durban seeks an experienced Legal Counsel specializing in commercial contracts. You will manage end-to-end contracting processes, advise on risk, and support cross-functional teams across procurement, sales, and operations.

The ideal candidate is admitted in the High Court of South Africa with at least five years of PQE in commercial law, able to draft, review, and negotiate complex agreements and implement standard templates.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of SA with minimum 5 years' PQE focused on commercial contracting.
• Proven track record drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
• Strong understanding of contract and corporate law in South Africa.
• Excellent communication and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a high volume of commercial contracts (service, supply, partnership).
• Provide legal advice on contractual matters, risk assessment, and dispute resolution.
• Ensure contracts comply with SA laws and company policies.
• Collaborate with procurement, sales, and operations to address legal needs.
• Develop standard contract templates and processes.
• Conduct legal research on commercial and corporate law issues.
• Manage contract lifecycle from initiation to execution and post-execution review.
• Support Head of Legal in managing litigation as required.
