Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Chemical Process Design Engineer for our client in Soweto, Gauteng. You will develop process designs, PFDs and P&IDs, run simulations, size equipment, and perform techno-economic analyses for capital projects.

You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams, ensure safety compliance, and provide support through construction and start-up, contributing to safe, cost-effective, and compliant plant design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical process design within petrochemical/related industries.
• Proficiency with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, CHEMCAD).
• Strong understanding of unit operations, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
• Experience in developing PFDs and P&IDs.
• Familiarity with process safety principles and HAZOP analysis.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a project engineering team in Soweto.

Responsibilities

• Develop process designs from conceptualization through to detailed engineering, including PFDs and P&IDs.
• Perform process simulations and calculations for mass and energy balances, equipment sizing, and performance predictions.
• Select appropriate process equipment and technologies, generating technical specifications for procurement.
• Conduct feasibility studies and techno-economic analyses for new process designs and modifications.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards, safety regulations (HAZOP), and environmental requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate process designs into plant layouts.
• Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and start-up phases.
• Review vendor proposals and equipment submittals for technical compliance.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of design standards and methodologies.
• Prepare clear and concise technical reports and documentation.
