Placements24 is seeking a Senior Data Scientist specialized in Bioinformatics to join its advanced research division, working remotely from Welkom. You will analyze large-scale biological datasets, build predictive models, and extract insights to drive genomics and drug development research.

Collaborate with biologists, computational biologists, and data scientists to tackle complex challenges, design pipelines, and ensure reproducible workflows in a flexible remote setting.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist or Bioinformatician, with a focus on biological data.
• Proficiency in Python or R.
• Strong experience with bioinformatics tools, databases, and analytical platforms.
• Solid understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and experimental design.
• Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote team.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement sophisticated machine learning models and statistical analyses for biological data.
• Process, clean, and analyze large genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic datasets.
• Design and build data pipelines for efficient data management and analysis.
• Collaborate with domain experts to define research questions and translate them into analytical approaches.
• Visualize complex data patterns and communicate findings effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Contribute to the development of research strategies and the exploration of new analytical methodologies.
