Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Engineer in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. You will spearhead design, development and implementation of BESS projects, integrating storage with renewables and the grid to enhance stability and provide ancillary services.

The role requires deep expertise in battery chemistry, PCS, EMS, and project management, with leadership of a technical team and collaboration with stakeholders to deliver complex BESS solutions.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with energy storage specialization.
• 9+ years in energy sector with 5+ years in BESS.
• Knowledge of Li-ion, PCS, EMS.
• Experience with grid integration studies.
• PR.Eng registration is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and engineering of BESS from concept to commissioning.
• Develop system architecture and select battery tech, inverters, control systems.
• Perform system sizing, energy modeling, and economic analysis for BESS projects.
• Ensure designs comply with grid codes and safety standards.
• Oversee procurement, integration, and testing of BESS components.
• Collaborate with project managers, EPC contractors, and utility partners.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to company standards.
