Placements24 is recruiting a Senior Backend Engineer for a fully remote role in South Africa. You will design, implement, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power our products.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, optimize performance, and ensure robust software solutions in a remote, asynchronous environment. This position offers remote-first culture and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years backend software development experience.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, Go, or Node.js.
• Relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and/or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and Docker/Kubernetes.
• Strong problem-solving in a remote, asynchronous environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy robust backend services and APIs.
• Optimize queries, architecture, and performance.
• Write clean, well-documented, thoroughly tested code.
• Collaborate with product and frontend teams to deliver features.
• Troubleshoot complex issues in production.
• Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions.
