Job summary

RPO Recruitment on behalf of a reputable contractor seeks a SCADA Engineer to join the Control Systems team in Johannesburg. This is a full-time, permanent role for an energetic professional with 3+ years of SCADA design, programming, and commissioning—particularly in solar PV and grid-tied energy systems.

Minimum qualification is a Diploma or Bachelor's in Electrical/Electronic/Control Engineering, with hands-on PPC configuration and PLC/HMI programming experience.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of SCADA experience in solar PV or renewable projects.
• Proven PPC configuration and commissioning experience (Siemens, Schneider, DEIF, etc.).
• Proficiency in PLC/HMI programming and industrial protocols.
• Familiar with grid-tied logic and system-level control schematics.
• Ability to travel for site work and commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement SCADA systems for solar PV and grid-tied energy projects.
• Commission PPC configurations and ensure compliance with grid codes.
• Review and integrate third-party SCADA with plant control systems.
• Develop specifications and concept designs for SCADA components and architecture.

Requirements:

• National Diploma or Bachelor’s in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering.
• At least 3 years of SCADA experience in solar PV or renewable projects.
• Proven experience in PPC configuration and commissioning (Siemens, Schneider, DEIF, etc.).
• Proficiency in PLC/HMI programming (TIA Portal, EcoStruxure, Codesys).
• Solid understanding of Modbus TCP/IP, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, OPC UA.
• Familiar with grid-tied logic and system-level control schematics.
• Willingness to travel for site work and system commissioning.
• Developing specifications and concept designs for SCADA components and system architecture.
• Reviewing and integrating third-party SCADA systems with overall plant control systems.
• Configuring Power Plant Controllers (PPC) and ensuring compliance with utility grid codes.
• Experience in hybrid or BESS systems is a plus.
