Job summary

Project A Recruitment is seeking an experienced Roadfreight Export Controller in Gauteng to lead day-to-day roadfreight exports within the SADC region. You will directly engage transporters, negotiate competitive rates and manage shipments from quotation to delivery, ensuring profitability and timely movement of cargo.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in roadfreight export control.

• Strong knowledge of roadfreight rates, quotations, load consolidation and transport coordination.
• Understanding of SADC export documentation and border procedures.
• Experience resolving customs, border and shipment challenges.
• Strong commercial awareness with focus on profitability and cost control.

Responsibilities

• Prepare roadfreight export estimates and quotations.
• Negotiate and maintain competitive rates with transporters and carriers.
• Build and maintain relationships with transporters, service providers and clients.
• Coordinate and monitor SADC roadfreight export shipments from dispatch to delivery.
• Consolidate compatible cargo and ensure profitability on each load.
• Arrange cargo dispatch within required timeframes.
• Prepare manifests and border documentation.
• Process SADC documentation, COO and phytosanitary applications where required.
• Complete RCG reporting and MPR manifests.
• Follow up on customs and border-related issues and resolve delays or discrepancies.
• Arrange RIB and RIT shipments; monitor PODs and ensure acquittals.
• Assist with import roadfreight shipments when required.
• Manage shipment files, invoicing, disbursements and supporting documentation.
• Provide clients with accurate daily shipment updates.
• Maintain accurate shipment records and operational notes on systems.

Roadfreight Export Controller

An opportunity is available for an experienced, hands-on Roadfreight Export Controller with strong SADC roadfreight export knowledge and proven experience dealing directly with transporters and negotiating rates.

This role requires someone who is actively involved in the day-to-day operational side of roadfreight exports, from obtaining quotations and negotiating transport rates to coordinating shipments, managing documentation and resolving issues at borders.
We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their shipments, understands the commercial side of roadfreight and can build strong working relationships with transporters and clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare roadfreight export estimates and quotations
• Deal directly with transporters and carriers to obtain, negotiate and maintain competitive rates
• Build and maintain strong relationships with transporters, service providers and clients
• Coordinate and monitor SADC roadfreight export shipments from dispatch through to delivery
• Consolidate compatible cargo and ensure profitability on each load
• Arrange cargo dispatch within required timeframes
• Prepare manifests and border documentation
• Process SADC documentation, Certificates of Origin (COO) and phytosanitary applications where required
• Complete RCG reporting and MPR manifests
• Follow up on customs and border-related issues and resolve delays or discrepancies
• Arrange RIB and RIT shipments, monitor proof of delivery (PODs) and ensure acquittals are completed
• Assist with import roadfreight shipments when required
• Manage shipment files, invoicing, disbursements and supporting documentation
• Provide clients with accurate daily shipment updates
• Maintain accurate shipment records and operational notes on the relevant systems

Requirements

• Proven experience in roadfreight export controlling, preferably within the SADC region
• Direct, hands-on experience dealing and negotiating with transporters and carriers
• Strong knowledge of roadfreight rates, quotations, load consolidation and transport coordination
• Understanding of SADC export documentation and border procedures
• Experience resolving customs, border and shipment-related challenges
• Strong commercial awareness with a focus on profitability and cost control
• Good customer service, communication and problem-solving skills
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
• Computer literacy and experience working with freight forwarding systems

Important Candidate Profile

We are specifically looking for an operationally hands-on individual who has personally managed roadfreight export shipments and negotiated directly with transporters.
Candidates whose experience is primarily focused on subcontracting transport requirements to external providers, without personally handling the operational and negotiation process, will not be suitable.
