Job summary

Datafin IT Recruitment has partnered with a leading Shipping Company in Cape Town to recruit an Operations Coordinator. This role oversees international freight shipments end-to-end, from the handover by Sales through to final delivery, invoicing and file closure.

You will manage imports and exports (sea FCL/LCL, air, road) with ownership of shipment files and proactive communication with clients and suppliers, solving issues independently.

Qualifications

• Matric / National Senior Certificate and 3 years freight forwarding or international moving operations experience.
• Experience with imports and exports (FCL, LCL, air, road) and end-to-end file ownership.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and direct client contact.

Responsibilities

• Manage 30–40 active shipment files at a time with fixed cut-offs and invoicing.
• Handle import and export shipments end-to-end from bookings to delivery and close files.
• Arrange bookings, collections and final deliveries; prepare and check shipping docs.

ENVIRONMENT

A leading Shipping Company seeks an experienced Operations Coordinator to manage international freight shipments from the point a confirmed booking is handed over by Sales through to final delivery, invoicing and file closure. You will handle both imports and exports across sea FCL, sea LCL, air freight and road freight. This is an end-to-end operational role, not a tracking or administrative position. They need someone who can take ownership of their shipment files, communicate proactively with clients and suppliers, solve operational problems independently, and work without constant supervision or micromanagement. Applicants must have Matric/Grade 12 with at least 3 years’ freight forwarding or international moving operations experience including Imports and Exports, FCL, LCL, air freight and road freight & experience with End-to-end shipment file ownership and direct client contact.

DUTIES

• You will typically manage around 30–40 active shipment files at a time. The role involves fixed cut-offs, detailed documentation, frequent client and supplier follow-up, costing and invoicing, and resolving unexpected operational problems.
• Manage import and export shipments end to end.
• Arrange bookings, collections and final deliveries.
• Prepare and check shipping and customs documentation.
• Proactively manage clients, carriers, agents and shipment exceptions.
• Manage accruals, supplier costs, invoicing, margin and file closure.

REQUIREMENTS

Must-Haves –

• Matric / National Senior Certificate.
• Minimum 3 years freight forwarding or international moving operations experience.
• Imports and Exports experience.
• FCL, LCL, air freight and road freight experience.
• End-to-end shipment file ownership and direct client contact.
• A suitable quiet workspace and reliable dedicated (for single user) internet of at least 20 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload are required.

Nice-to-haves –

• CargoWise or similar freight-management system experience.
• Customs entry framing / SARS EDI experience.
• International household moving experience.
• Freight, customs or logistics qualification.
• Afrikaans proficiency.
