Job summary

Placements24 in South Africa is seeking a dedicated Remote Telecoms Network Engineer to design, implement, and support our client's evolving telecommunications network infrastructure from anywhere within Gauteng or beyond, aligned to Soweto time zones.

You will monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and maintain documentation while collaborating virtually with distributed teams. A minimum 4 years' experience and a strong grasp of TCP/IP, BGP/OSPF, VPNs, and security are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of professional experience as a Network Engineer or in a similar role.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), switching technologies, and VPNs.
• Hands-on experience with network monitoring tools and network security principles.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and manage network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and firewalls, in a remote capacity.
• Monitor network performance, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and implement proactive solutions to ensure high availability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams using virtual collaboration tools to deliver network projects and support.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams and configuration guides.
• Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 network support as needed.
• Stay current with emerging telecoms technologies and best practices for remote network management.
