Placements24 seeks a highly skilled Remote Legal Counsel in South Africa with a focus on technology and intellectual property. The role supports business functions and strategic initiatives originating from Bloemfontein, offering autonomy in a fully remote setup.

You will advise on software licensing, data privacy (POPIA), and IP protection while contributing to digital transformation and innovative technology solutions across the company.

Qualifications

• Admitted attorney with 7+ years in technology law.
• Strong IP, data privacy, and contract knowledge.
• Experience with software licensing, open-source and tech transfer.
• Excellent remote communication and time management.
• Ability to work independently in a remote role.
• Familiarity with international data privacy laws is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate technology-related agreements, incl. software licenses, SaaS, and development contracts.
• Advise on data privacy regulations (POPIA) and develop data protection strategies.
• Manage and protect IP portfolio: trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
• Provide legal guidance on e-commerce, cybersecurity, and online content.
• Conduct legal research on emerging technologies and their implications.
• Support business units on legal aspects of product development and digital transformation.
