Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter specializing in niche and specialty lines to join our fully remote team. You will develop and manage profitable portfolios for complex risks, structuring innovative insurance solutions and working closely with brokers.

The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of specialty markets, strong analytical skills, and a proven underwriting track record. This role offers significant autonomy and remote work from anywhere in South Africa.

Qualifications

• A relevant degree or professional qualification in Insurance, Finance, or a related field is essential.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive underwriting experience with focus on specialty lines (e.g., E&O, D&O, Cyber, Marine, Construction).
• Demonstrated success in underwriting complex risks and managing profitable portfolios.
• Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making capabilities.
• Outstanding negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage a portfolio of specialty lines insurance business, focusing on profitability and growth.
• Conduct in-depth risk analysis of complex and non-standard exposures across various industries.
• Develop and implement tailored underwriting strategies and guidelines for specialty products.
• Build, nurture, and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key brokers and distribution partners nationwide.
• Evaluate market conditions, competitor strategies, and emerging trends within specialty insurance sectors.
• Collaborate closely with claims, legal, and product development teams to ensure comprehensive risk management.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior underwriters and support staff.
• Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers to secure favorable business outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal underwriting standards.
