Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly analytical Senior Underwriter specializing in Specialty Lines to work remotely. You will underwrite and price complex risks, focusing on Professional Indemnity, D&O, Cyber, and Construction All Risks across South Africa and beyond.

The role requires deep actuarial understanding, independent decision-making, and leadership in a remote team. You will analyze financials, price sophisticated risk solutions, mentor junior underwriters, and collaborate with brokers,

Qualifications

• 7+ years of underwriting experience with a focus on specialty lines.
• Expertise in at least two specialty lines (e.g., PI, D&O, Cyber).
• Ability to analyze complex risks and develop pricing models.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills, with clear rationale.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and price complex specialty lines risks and provide pricing guidance.
• Analyze financial statements, market data, and other info to assess risk and pricing.
• Build and maintain broker/agent relationships and provide underwriting support.
• Collaborate with claims, legal, and product teams for risk management strategies.
• Monitor portfolio performance and adjust underwriting guidelines as needed.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal policies across SA.
• Contribute to new product development and remote operations best practices.
• Mentor junior underwriters to build remote working capabilities.
• Stay updated on industry trends and evolving risks in specialty lines.
