Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Technical Artist to join a fully remote team based in Durban. You will bridge art and engineering, developing tools, shaders, and pipelines to optimize assets and workflows for real-time game rendering.

The ideal candidate has strong programming skills, deep knowledge of 3D pipelines, and a proven ability to improve efficiency and visual fidelity in a distributed development environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience as Technical Artist in game development.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, MEL, or C#.
• Strong knowledge of 3D modeling, texturing, and rendering pipelines.
• Experience with shader development (e.g., HLSL, GLSL) and game engines (Unreal Engine, Unity).
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and remote development experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain robust art pipelines, tools, and scripts to enhance workflows.
• Create and optimize complex shaders, materials, and VFX for real-time rendering.
• Collaborate with artists and engineers to troubleshoot asset integration and optimize performance.
• Research and implement new technologies and techniques to improve visual quality and efficiency.
• Provide technical support and training to the art team on pipeline tools and best practices.
