Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer for a fully remote role. The successful candidate will design, analyze, and specify structural systems across diverse projects, relying on advanced software for analysis, seismic design, and wind loads.

You will collaborate with architects and other disciplines in a virtual environment to ensure integrated project delivery. The role requires a Bachelor's in Structural or Civil Engineering, a PE license, and a minimum of 7 years' experience.

• Master's degree is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and specify structural systems for new construction and renovation projects, ensuring compliance with building codes and standards.
• Perform complex structural calculations using specialized software for building analysis, seismic design, and wind load calculations.
• Collaborate effectively with architects, project managers, and other engineering disciplines in a virtual environment to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, construction drawings, and specifications for review and approval.
• Conduct peer reviews of engineering designs and calculations to maintain high standards of quality and accuracy.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design staff remotely.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in structural engineering, materials, and construction technologies, and incorporate them into designs.
• Manage multiple project tasks simultaneously while adhering to deadlines and project objectives.
• Conduct site visits and inspections as required, utilizing remote monitoring tools and virtual collaboration platforms when possible.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• A Master's degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in structural engineering design and analysis within the construction industry.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent professional certification is mandatory.
• Proficiency in industry-standard structural analysis and design software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, Revit Structure).
• Solid understanding of building codes (e.g., SANS codes, Eurocodes) and engineering best practices.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly in a remote setting.
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team, demonstrating self-discipline and proactive engagement.
• Experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) software is highly desirable.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in South Africa and possess their own reliable remote working setup.
