Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer for a fully remote role in South Africa. You will design and manage comprehensive process safety programs, conduct risk assessments, and drive industry best practices across our chemical manufacturing operations.

The ideal candidate has a chemical engineering degree, 10+ years in PSM, experience with HAZOP/LOPA, PHAST/EFFECT, and strong incident investigation skills, with CSP or CCPSC being desirable.

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in process safety with a strong PSM focus.
• Experience with HAZOP, LOPA and other PHA methods.
• Proficiency in PHAST and EFFECT software for risk analyses.
• Solid knowledge of IEC 61508/61511 and NFPA 70E.
• Experience in incident investigations and RCA.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Process Safety Management systems.
• Lead PHAs including HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies.
• Perform SIL assessments and contribute to SIS design.
• Conduct QRAs and consequence modeling.
• Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA PSM and Seveso directives.
• Deliver process safety training to teams.
• Review MOC procedures for safety implications.
• Audit safety procedures and systems for effectiveness.
• Provide expert process safety advice to projects.
• Promote safety culture through leadership.
