Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Remote Chemical Engineer specializing in Process Safety & Compliance to oversee PS M programs across sites, including Bloemfontein region. You will lead PHAs (HAZOP/LOPA), assess risks, and guide cross-functional teams to maintain high safety and regulatory standards in a fully remote role.

The ideal candidate has a chemical engineering degree with 6+ years in process safety, knowledge of PSM elements, and experience with OSHA/EPA standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering; 6+ years in process safety engineering in chemical industry; strong knowledge of PSM elements (PHA, MOC, PSSR, Mechanical Integrity); experience with HA ZOP, What-If, LOPA analyses; familiarity with OSHA/EPA safety standards; excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; strong communication, especially for remote collaboration; ability to work independently across multiple projects; CSP/CIH certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain robust process safety management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct PHAs including HAZOP/LOPA/What-If analyses and close actions.
• Perform risk assessments and develop hazard mitigation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations locally, nationally and internationally.
• Provide guidance and training on process safety to teams.
• Review designs to ensure safety and compliance.
• Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop and update SOPs related to safety and compliance.
• Stay current with evolving safety regulations and industry standards.
• Maintain records and documentation for process safety activities.
