Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly analytical Senior Mechanical Design Analyst for a fully remote role supporting our Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape division. You will apply FEA, CFD, and thermal analysis to predict failures and optimize cooling in miniaturized consumer electronics.

You will collaborate with design engineers and product managers, develop analytical models, define test plans, and mentor junior engineers while staying current with simulation software.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field with emphasis on FEA and thermal analysis.
• Minimum of 6 years hands-on experience in mechanical design analysis and simulation.
• Proficiency with industry-standard FEA software (e.g., ANSYS Mechanical, Abaqus, Nastran).
• Strong experience with thermal analysis tools and CFD software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL).
• Deep understanding of material properties, failure modes, and fatigue analysis.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, APDL) for automation of analysis tasks is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and analytical mindset.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills for explaining results to non-technical audiences.
• Experience with product development cycles in consumer electronics or similar industries.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural integrity, vibration, and fatigue of complex mechanical designs.
• Conduct thermal analysis (Conduction, Convection, Radiation) to manage heat dissipation in electronic devices.
• Utilize CFD for airflow and cooling optimization where applicable.
• Develop and validate analytical models, correlating simulation results with experimental data.
• Collaborate with mechanical designers to interpret results and recommend design modifications.
• Define test plans for validating simulation predictions and guide experiments.
• Stay updated with advancements in simulation software and materials science.
• Document methodologies, results and recommendations clearly.
• Mentor junior engineers and analysts in mechanical simulation and design validation.
